2×2=2 ?!

This is not an advertisement for a ROKON; it is just a hint to check the work of people who think out of the box. Rokon started in the 50`s with the California inventor Charles Fen who set out to build the ultimate off road motorcycle when he had one ganja to much in his garden shed. In the mid 70 presented an enduro bike with shiftless transmission, which used a centrifugal clutch and a variable-belt drive like the kind often found in snowmobiles. In 1973 five prototype machines finished the International Six Day Enduro, earning Rokon an award for technical achievement. These competition models did not capture the market back then but the idea did go on with Husqvarna developing a three speed automatic endure bike which won the National Enduro Championship with Terry Cunningham. The idea automatic transmission is still exploited even today with the Rekluse clutch. Today Rokon produces 2×2 driven utility motorcycles which is not going to win any beauty competition even back in red neck county but is technically innovations and the idea of simple reliability lives on in every product.

Triumph Drag Racer

By The Zor, 15 November, 2009, No Comment

I found this backyard engineering at its best in the Winter 2007 issue of Antique Motorcycle Magazine. It is a 1957 TR6A Triumph with a 6T 650 cc engine. The current owner, Jeff Thompson, is looking for the history of the motorcycle. More about the motorcycle here.

THERE’S NOTHING ELSE TO LOSE, AND NOTHING LEFT BUT THE WIND…

By The Zor, 5 November, 2009, No Comment

Get yourself a motorcycle. ’Nuff said. From movie stars to mechanics, hippies to hard-asses — everyone loves the feeling of being on a bike. For some it’s a phase, for others a lifelong obsession. Whatever the case may be, the experience will definitely leave you changed — and somewhat less tamed. Knowing that you can handle a bike – exposed to all that the elements can throw at you – gives you a confidence that’s unspoken. Others will sense somethings different, but might not quite get it. You feel more equipped behind the wheel of any ol’ thing.
